St Briavels Community Tree and Hedgerow Workshop
The Climate Change Team are organising a Community Tree Planting Workshop with the Forest of Dean Climate Action Partnership (FODCAP) and Laura Ashton Phillips from the Trees Team at Gloucestershire County Council. It offers a practical next step for councils and Communities thinking about what they can do locally following the People’s National Emergency Briefing film.
The workshop is taking place on Thursday 12 November, 09:30–12:30 in St Briavels.
The session will cover how to identify suitable sites, choose the right species, secure funding and give newly planted trees the best chance of thriving. We’ll also visit local community planting projects to see what’s possible and hear from people involved in making them happen.
What to expect:
- Practical advice on choosing the right trees and hedgerows for your community
- Guidance on site selection, planting and long-term care
- A visit to St Briavels Community Orchard to see how community-planted trees are maturing
- A look at a local site identified by the community for potential future tree planting
- Information on funding and support available for community projects, including free tree schemes
- Opportunities to ask questions of the organisations involved
- Free refreshments and networking
We’ll also be sharing information about a range of funding opportunities for community tree planting, including National Highways Community Trees Programme – The Tree Council which provides free trees for communities across England.
