Biodiversity in St Briavels, Hewelsfield & Brockweir PC’s
The Parish Councils of St Briavels and Hewelsfield and Brockweir have agreed an ambitious joint Biodiversity action plan. The plan has been developed by a formally tasked joint Working Group of Councillors and a small group of local volunteers. The objective of this policy is to work together towards protecting and enhancing the biodiversity of both Councils’ closely connected areas.
Under the 2021 Environment Act, local councils in England must consider what they can do to conserve and enhance biodiversity.
Government guidance clarifies that parish councils must:
- consider what they can do to conserve and enhance biodiversity.
- agree policies and specific objectives based on their consideration.
- act to deliver their policies and achieve their objectives.
The Plan contains nine targets to improve biodiversity by 2030 and some suggested actions to achieve these outcomes. The plan has been endorsed by the two councils, helping them to meet their responsibilities under the Environment Act 2021.
The working group is headed by Councillors Chris McFarling (SBPC) and Ed Haythornthwaite (H&BPC). For more information please contact Chris chrismcfarling@phonecoop.coop or 015934 531225.
