| Don’t lose your vote – Forest of Dean residents urged to check voter registration details | ||

| Residents across the Forest of Dean are being reminded to check their voter registration details to ensure they don’t miss out on having their say in future elections. | ||
| Forest of Dean District Council is carrying out its annual canvass to update the electoral register. This process helps identify anyone at risk of losing their right to vote and ensures that everyone eligible is properly registered.
Nigel Brinn, CEO at Forest of Dean District Council and Electoral Registration Officer, said: “Maintaining an accurate electoral register is a vital part of our democratic process, and the annual canvass plays a key role in ensuring that. It’s important that residents take a few moments to check and respond to any information our Electoral Services team send out. “It’s not just about making sure your own vote counts, it’s about ensuring that everyone eligible in your household is registered. If you’re not currently registered, your name won’t appear in our communications – so it’s vital to check. Don’t forget to include any 16 or 17 year olds living at your address when responding. “Your voice matters in local and national decisions and being registered is the first step in having your say.” Research by the Electoral Commission shows that just 40% of people who moved home in the past year are registered to vote, compared to 95% of those who have lived at the same address for 16 years or more. Notice of Election - County Council ElectionsVE Day 80th anniversary 8th May – Community Groups Wanted
/in News /by ClerkVE Day 80th anniversary in May – this important Anniversary marks the end of the war in Europe and WWII. Even though Thursday 8th May 2025 is not a public holiday, there will be several national events held on this day, and understand the Monday 5th Bank Holiday will also be a day when many events and celebrations are held.
The council will raise the Flag on the Tump on 8th May and wish to encourage our innovative community groups to come forward with their plans, projects or events using our Community grant funds. We have money specifically set aside for this and expect ideas such as VE Day 80 parties – perhaps exhibitions, or decorating with lights for peace, traditional tea parties or music events. Please speak to any Councillor or email the Clerk if you have ideas asap.
Grant forms to apply for Community grant funding are available to formal community groups here (see number 13 on https://www.stbriavels-pc.gov.uk/parish-council/publications/ ). Applications must be sent to the Clerk by the end of the month to make the next Agenda. We always welcome applications from parish groups whose projects can benefit our parishioners and is a vital role of the council to facilitate and enable benefits for our community.
