Co-option Opportunities to fill 2 Casual Vacancies
Councillors are usually elected by the public every 4 years to represent the parish and make decisions on its behalf. There are 2 co-option spaces available on the Parish Council as former Councillors Paul Lounds and Dianne Stadhams have recently resigned. The Returning Officer has advised no Election is required and the council allowed to proceed with co-option.
A councillor’s role includes opportunities to:
- get involved locally as a local representative of parishioners views
- debate and make decisions at monthly council meetings with other elected members
- decide which activities to support, where money should be spent as permitted
- decide what projects or events should be delivered and what policies be implemented
- and monitor them to ensure effective and efficient, ensuring value for taxpayers’ money
- sometimes be appointed as council representatives on other local organisations
- sometimes lead or actively support council led projects with the community
These responsibilities and duties are varied and utilise councillors’ skills and experience to best advantage for their community.
You will be supported in your role as councillor and will be expected to undertake training. You should have a positive outlook and a can-do attitude and be willing to work in a professional, pragmatic manner as part of a democratic team. Ideally you should be able to communicate well and be comfortable working electronically to receive council correspondence.

The official Casual Vacancy Notices have been published since 5th and 14th December.
The final deadline for return of application forms is Sunday 4th February and applicants will be considered on 12th February 2024 at the monthly council meeting, with successful co-optees taking immediate office once declaration papers are signed.
