OVERLOOKING THE WYE

The Wye Valley AONB Partnership made a presentation to the Council at the last Meeting on ways in which the village’s heritage and its panoramic views of the Wye Valley can be protected. The Council hopes to be in a position to consider options at its next meeting.

ROAD CLOSURE

Gloucestershire Highways Department have issues a road closure order on the A466 from Bigsweir Bridge to Lower Redbrook from 4th to 15th January. This is to permit carriageway resurfacing, drainage and signal works.  Diversions will be in place to redirect road users travelling from Monmouth and Chepstow. Local traffic from St Briavels should travel to Monmouth via Clearwell and Redbrook, and via Brockweir to Tintern/LLandogo.

It is now 100 days to go before the West TV region starts switching to digital TV. The switchover will take place in two stages on Wednesday 24 March 2010 and Wednesday 7 April 2010.

Our latest research indicates good levels of awareness about the forthcoming change to terrestrial TV services and that the majority of viewers are well prepared.

We will shortly be sending a guide to switchover to all households explaining viewers’ options for going digital and what happens during switchover. For viewers with Freeview, BT Vision or Top Up TV equipment, the guide will also provide a step-by-step guide on how to retune.

Starting in February, the Help Scheme’s local community campaign, Helping Hand, will encourage people to tell older and disabled relatives, friends and neighbours about the help they can receive to convert one TV set to digital.

SHOPPERS IN WEST URGED TO BUY DIGITAL THIS CHRISTMAS

Shoppers across the West TV region are being urged to ‘buy digital’ this Christmas as switchover approaches for viewers early next year. An estimated two million television sets will be sold in the UK in the run up to the festive season. People buying new TV equipment are being urged to look for the ‘digital tick’ logo, which identifies products designed to continue working after switchover. The West region will start the switch to digital-only TV on 24 March 2010, and completes the process on 7 April.
