At their meeting the Parish Council considered a request from a resident to provide some dog waste bins in the village. The provision of the bins and regular emptying would have to be paid for entirely from the Parish Council’s limited funds, and it was felt that it would be too expensive. We believe that the majority of dog owners in the village are responsible, and there is just a small minority who do not clear up after their dogs. The District Council’s new byelaws mean that you can be fined up to £1000 for not cleaning up after your dog, and they will bring a prosecution based on a photograph of the offence, backed up by a witness statement. So if you live near an area where dog mess is a problem – keep your camera at the ready! And if you are one of the few people who do not clean up after your dog, be aware that it could be a very expensive mistake.
The Parish Council are looking for a local contractor who can build some short paths across highway verges – the work involves digging out, laying and compacting stone and installing timber edges. If anyone is interested please contact the Clerk for a detailed specification of the work. Our intention is to provide paths to the bus shelter at Horsepool Lane and to the bench at Coldharbour, so that residents can use these facilities without having to walk across wet grass.
