We are continuing to look at ideas for more facilities, and have received information regarding youth shelters which we will look at in more detail at our next meeting. Some time in the New Year we will be planning a meeting for everyone who has offered to help or shown an interest in getting involved.
November Report
Trading Standards are warning people to look out for a scam which is operating very locally – cards are left through people’s letter boxes stating that a company has tried to deliver a parcel, and giving an 090 telephone number to call to arrange delivery – this is a premium rate number and costs around £15 to call – and there is no parcel! If you receive a card which you are unsure about check the Trading Standards section on Gloucestershire County Council’s website www.tradingstandards.gov.uk/glos
The Open Air Act of Remembrance was very well attended in spite of the quite awful weather – we think around 250 people attended, and we have been asked to look into getting the road closed for a short while next year when the service is taking place. Thankyou to everyone who attended and particularly to those who led and participated in the service, and to the volunteers who provided the refreshments afterwards.
This is the title of a campaign being organised by Carers Gloucestershire to have the Carers Allowance system overhauled. The campaign is in the form of a “Jam Today” postcard which outlines the need to reform Carers Allowance. The postcard allows you to add your voice to the campaign by signing and printing your name and address on the reverse and returning it (freepost) to Carers Gloucestershire. The cards will then be taken to Downing Street on Carers Rights Day in December by a group of Carers. The success of such a campaign depends on as many people as possible to sign and submit the cards. So if you think that this is a worthy campaign then please persuade as many people as possible, Carers or not , to complete one of the cards. You may even receive a reply from the Prime Minister! Cards can be obtained from Carers Gloucestershire (01452 386283) or from either of the two Parish Churches. Cards need to be returned by December 5th.
